The Chorizo with Quinoa from Embutidos Ortiz (Navarrete, La Rioja) has been chosen Product of the Year 2019 in the 19th edition of the Grand Prize for Innovation, whose awards were presented on 18 December at a ceremony held at the Hotel Majestic in Barcelona.

 

Embutidos Ortiz’s Chorizo with Quinoa shares this recognition with 46 other products from the Food, Hygiene-Cosmetics, Drugstore, Household Appliances, Home and Parapharmacy sectors. Among the award winners are prestigious brands such as Danone, Puleva, San Miguel, Procter & Gamble, Knorr, Nestlé and Kraft Heinz.

 

The Product of the Year is the only national competition in which the awards are chosen by the consumers themselves through 10,000 surveys of people representative of the Spanish population. The event began in France in 1987 and now takes place in more than 40 countries around the world. It is the highest independent recognition of innovation among brands.

 

The more than 10,000 consumers surveyed rated the innovation and level of purchase intent of each of the candidates. In addition, a product test was carried out on 100 consumers per participant to assess a wide range of qualities such as value for money, packaging, flavour, perfume, effectiveness, etc., as well as the intention to buy after the test and the aspects of each product that could be improved.

 

The 47 award-winning products will be identified throughout 2019 with the Product of the Yearlogo in their communication and will benefit from special communication actions promoted by the organisation.

 

The Chorizo with Quinoa of Embutidos Ortiz

Embutidos Ortiz presented its Chorizo with Quinoa last spring and is the result of the collaboration between the R&D&I Department of the Navarrete-based company and the Agri-Food Technology Centre of La Rioja (Ctic Cita).

 

This is an innovative product that is made by adding Quinoa to the most natural and traditional formula of Ortiz chorizo, based on the best quality ingredients. This results in a gluten-free, lactose-free and 100% natural product (without additives or artificial colourings), which maintains all the flavour of the chorizo with a differential touch and to which the proteins of quinoa are added, resulting in a food that stands out for its high nutritional value.
