Chorizo with Kombu seaweed from Embutidos Ortiz (Navarrete, La Rioja) has been chosen Product of the Year 2020 in the Meat categoryat the 20th edition of the Grand Prize for Innovation, whose awards were presented yesterday 20 January at a ceremony held at the Teatre Lliure de Montjüic, in Barcelona.
Embutidos Ortiz’s Chorizo with Kombu seaweedshares this recognition with 53 other products belonging to the same number of categories. Among the award winners are brands of the renowned prestige and trajectory of Danone (the night’s big winner), Kellog’s, Mahou, Grefusa, Nestlé, Bacardi, Spontex, De’Longhi and L’Oréal.
It so happens that another of Embutidos Ortiz’s innovative products, Chorizo with Quinoa, was also recognised last year as Product of the Year 2019.
The Product of the Year is the only national competition in which the awards are chosen by consumers themselves through more than 10,000 surveys of people representative of the Spanish population.The event was first held in France in 1987 and now takes place in more than 40 countries around the world. It is the largest independent recognition of innovation among brands. This edition has stood out for the important commitment of the brands to healthy, ecological and vegan products.
The Chorizo with Kombu seaweed of Embutidos Ortiz
Embutidos Ortiz Chorizo with Kombu seaweed is a 100% Natural product with reduced salt content, which is made following the traditional recipe of the Ortiz family, which only includes pork, paprika, salt and garlic, to which kombu seaweed is added. The result is a product with an intense flavour, gluten-free, lactose-free and free of artificial additives and preservatives.
Embutidos Ortiz is a family company with a charcuterie tradition dating back to 1915, currently run by the fourth generation of the family. In 2017, coinciding with the launch of a new Strategic Plan, the R&D&I Department was created within which innovative products are developed in accordance with new trends and consumer demands. In 2019, Embutidos Ortiz received the Award for Agricultural Research and Innovation from the Government of La Rioja and obtained the Innovative SMECertification awarded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The 54 award-winning products will be identified throughout 2020 with the Product of the Yearlogo in their communication and will benefit from special communication actions promoted by the organisation.
